FAQ
Honest answers.
If something below is wrong or missing, email us at hello@gideonkeep.com.
- Will Gideon Keep file my taxes?
- No. Gideon Keep keeps your records ready. Gideon Tax (a separate product) files them, or your CPA can.
- Is this bookkeeping software?
- No. If you need a chart of accounts, invoicing, or payroll, you want QuickBooks or similar. We make tax filing easier, not accounting.
- Does it connect to my bank?
- Not yet. Manual entry, photo receipts, email forwarding, and CSV import cover most of what people need. Bank sync is a future option, not a requirement.
- Does Gideon Keep give tax advice?
- No. We organize records and show you what's likely deductible. For actual advice, talk to a CPA or EA — Human Support can point you to one.
- Where is my data stored?
- On secure US-based servers, encrypted at rest. SSNs and bank info are additionally encrypted at the field level.
- What if I cancel?
- You can export all your data as a ZIP at any time. After cancellation we retain records for 90 days, then permanently delete.
- Is the readiness score a guarantee?
- No. It's a checklist of common items most filers need. It doesn't predict your refund, your tax owed, or your audit risk.
- I got an IRS letter — can you handle it?
- We track it and remind you of the deadline. For an actual response, we point you to a preparer. Human Support can help you triage.
- Do you sell or share my data?
- Never. We don't sell, share, or train AI on your data — ours or anyone else's. This is a public commitment, not just a privacy-policy line.
- Why do you charge instead of being free?
- Free tax software usually pays itself back by selling data, running ads, or upselling endlessly. Charging keeps our incentives aligned with yours: make filing easier.
- What if I have an LLC and a side hustle and a W-2 job?
- All three live in one account. One business entity (the LLC), one tax profile (you), and a personal-vs-business flag on individual records.
- Can my CPA use it?
- Yes. The CPA export is a PDF + CSV package categorized to Schedule C line numbers, with per-entity and per-vehicle rollups. Multi-user (CPA invitee) access is coming in Phase 2.
