What Gideon Keep is
Gideon Keep is software that retains, verifies and structures tax information: identity and relationships, tax documents and Gideon's interpretation of them, your confirmations, year-specific facts, and durable tax attributes such as carryforwards, with their history. It exchanges that information with Gideon Tax and, in time, with other tax software you authorize.
What Gideon Keep is not
Gideon Keep does not prepare or file returns, and nothing in the product or on this site is tax, legal, accounting, financial or investment advice. Keep does not advise you what to claim, how to characterize income, whether an attribute may be used in a given year, or what position to take.
Verification is a software check, not an opinion
When Keep reads a document, attaches a confidence to a field, compares a value with prior records, flags a possible duplicate or corrected form, or asks you to confirm something, it is performing an automated consistency check. A field marked “high confidence” is a statement about the reader, not a determination about your taxes. A missing-document signal is a review prompt, not proof that a document exists or is required.
Carryforwards and other attributes
Keep records that an attribute exists and how its balance was reached. Whether, and how much of, that attribute may be deducted or credited in a particular year depends on that year's law, expiration rules, your status, limitations, elections, ordering rules and prior usage. That determination is made by tax-preparation software or a credentialed preparer at filing time — never by Keep, and never by assumption.
Autopreparation and authorization
Where Gideon Tax drafts a return from information held in Keep, the draft is prepared for your review. You are responsible for reviewing the changes, resolving open questions, and explicitly authorizing any filing. Nothing is filed on your behalf without that authorization.
No human services are included
The Keep subscription does not include human tax preparation, research, consulting, bookkeeping, reconciliation or manual data entry. Product support helps you use the software; it does not take tax positions on your behalf. For an opinion on a tax question, consult a CPA, an Enrolled Agent or an attorney.
Limitations
Tax law changes frequently. State rules vary. Imported and extracted information may be incomplete or wrong, and Keep marks uncertainty rather than hiding it. Your situation may include facts the software does not capture. The responsibility for a correct return remains yours, together with your preparer.
